2013 Aston Martin V12 Zagato

There was a time when automobiles were considered works of art, each vehicle customized and hand-built by artisans. The new 2013 Aston Martin V12 Zagato, shown in production-ready form at the Geneva Auto Show, represents a return to that era, but now employing modern engineering and construction using aluminum and carbon fiber. Having made its debut as a concept car at the 2011 Villa d’Este concours, then successfully entered in the grueling 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato was approved for a limited production run of 150, thanks to enough interest in this exclusive automobile.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato, the new V12 sports a flowing and elegant exterior that has its hood, double-bubble roof and doors formed from aluminum, while the fenders and trunklid are constructed of carbon fiber. With lessons learned from the carmaker’s ultra-exclusive One-77 supercar, the V12 Zagato takes approximately 2000 hours to complete, nearly 100 hours of which are dedicated to the painting process. There are four colors to choose from: silver, green, blue and red.

Inside the new Zagato, rich leather, hand-stitched logos, quilted seat upholstery and satin-finished carbon fiber on the dash and center stack show off a mix of old and new. A modern infotainment system incorporating a 700-watt stereo and iPod connection is ready for your enjoyment.

The Power

Motivating the V12 Zagato’s 3700-lb. curb weight is the familiar powertrain seen in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. The all-alloy dohc 5.9-liter V-12 is rated at 510 bhp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission puts the power down to the asphalt via a limited-slip differential driving 19-in. rear tires. According to the factory, the Zagato can sprint from 0–60 mph in 4.1 sec., with a top speed of 190 mph.

The V-12 Zagato’s suspension is double wishbones all around, and carbon-ceramic brakes—15.7-in. front and 14.1-in. rear—should handle track duties with ease. There is also a “Track” mode in the stability control system that lets you test your skills and take the car to its limits safely

The V12 Zagato is not homologated for the U.S., but if you had $450,000 or so to spend on the car, you might have the means to import the car yourself, though not for road use. First deliveries are expected this fall.
